Is your diet colorful?
Reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom made sure that we had a vegetable, a carb, and a protein at every meal. Little did I know what a balanced diet REALLY meant, and I can confidently say that now after much stubbornness that “ I grew up an athlete, I know what I’m doing.”
But the truth is, I struggled. I struggled for 4+ years after college and into the beginning stages of my marriage. The girl that never had to watch what she ate her entire life until she was 19. I started college promising myself that I wouldn’t be one of the people who gained the freshman 15. But I did, then 20. And it came on slowly to the point where I just woke up one day and didn’t recognize who I was anymore.
That’s when I was introduced to diets for the first time. “ Eat less, burn more”. Right? Or so I thought. For 4+ years I was completely depriving my body, and while I would, indeed, lose 10 pounds every time I would “diet”, It was never permanent and I was never fully satisfied with my body. I started believing the mentality of everyone else that “ this is what happens when you grow up” and “ our bodies just are not made like they were when we were younger.” ugh.
But this isn’t about me. This is about you and a solution, because I did find one, and maybe you’re dealing with the same thing NOW that I dealt with two years ago when starting my own journey to a healthier/happier life.
I’m gonna rewind for another minute, but I want to share how I found my new self.
In 2013 I got married to the love of my life and my high school sweetie. We had our dream wedding, spent the summer celebrating as newlyweds would ( drinking to much & spending too much money), and then we packed up and relocated to our first home 1,000 miles away from where we were born & raised. My husband is in the Navy, so this was the first of many moves we would encounter together.
Let’s just say this fairytale life wasn’t exactly what I called a fairytale starting out. My husband and I hadn’t lived together before marriage. We were in a new location without any friends/family. I spent 5 months applying to jobs and not getting any offers. The stress weighed and I gained. The weight gain led me into a down spiral of constant moodiness, anxiety, and depression. I was getting to the point where going out wasn’t even something I looked forward to because I had LITERALLY nothing that fit me.
To cut the story, I stumbled across an informercial on television by a company called Beachbody. I had heard of this company before, because I actually did insanity while I was in college! Shaun T was my man! (haha) and this new informercial was him AGAIN only this time he had created a 25 minute/day workout. I felt like it was my sign, and I was IN. At this point, I had taken a job that was full time with an insurance company until hopefully something else came up, so my time was limited but I KNEW with all my heart that I could commit to 25 min a day.
This was the start of my journey in December 2014. Fast forward a few months later, and just like you, I fell upon a post about an accountability group with a new program. Again, that program was under the Beachbody umbrella and I was intrigued. I had lost 10 pounds ( my lucky number), but I was stuck. AGAIN.
Until this.
Joining this new group with 30 minute workouts, A NUTRITION GUIDE, those pretty colorful containers to teach me portion sizes of each food group, a superfood shake, and accountability, I found my missing piece.
NUTRITION.
They say it’s 80% of your results, and boy are they right. But for the longest time, I was convinced that I could out work a bad meal. It just doesn’t work that way. I learned so much through this program and how focusing on your nutrition doesn’t mean depriving your body of the things you love. It’s about balance, It’s about keeping your plate colorful at all meals, it’s about fueling your body with WHAT IT NEEDS on a daily basis. Pair that with 30 minute workouts and a bunch of people working for the same thing, and 30 pounds later I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been.
I want that for you. I was inspired by that transformation, and I made the commitment to join the company and spread the word on these life changing products. I’m known as a “coach”, and I’ll be your coach for life once you commit. But what I really am is someone just like you. A girl that wanted to be healthy, to take care of myself, and to stop body shaming with weight that wasn’t supposed to be there.
2 years of this lifestyle and I hadn’t gained a single pound back. Now, I am 5 months into my first pregnancy, and guess what? I AM STILL KEEPING UP WITH THE SAME LIFESTYLE.
Call it coincidence, but I was lucky enough not to have any sickness. I’ve stayed energized for throughout the entire day, my changing hormones feel at balance when I get my sweat in, I have gained a healthy amount of weight, and most importantly, I’M STILL HAPPY!
Why?
Because I’ve learned through this process not just how to eat good and workout. I’ve learned how to love ME again. A girl who once determined her worth by others opinions and a number on a scale, has found peace with who she is and a PASSION for helping others do the same.
